Experienced former defender Matt Mills has revealed that he had a 'great' three years at Bolton Wanderers in an Instagram Q&A.

Mills has been entertaining fans from all corners of the country from his former clubs as he prepared to be a pundit for Nottingham Forest's away trip to Reading live on Sky Sports.

The 34-year-old played for several EFL clubs during his 17-year professional career, starting at Southampton and making his way to the likes of Doncaster, Reading, Leicester and Forest.

But he became a stalwart at the back for the Trotters after signing for them in 2012, spending three seasons with them before then moving to the City Ground on a free transfer.

Mills didn't have the most successful of times on the field at the Macron Stadium. The club were trying to get back to the Premier League and finished 7th in his first season, but 14th and 18th placed finishes saw Wanderers go on a steep decline.

And Mills reflected on his time in Greater Manchester by saying it was a good time, but he confirmed what everyone knew about their off the field struggles.

Have a look at Mills' response below.

The Verdict

Mills established himself as a top Championship defender during his time at Bolton, and ended up becoming the vice-captain in his final year at the club.

Forest ended up getting a bit of a steal in 2015 by signing Mills on a free, having left Wanderers due to their financial issues as Mills adhered to in his Instagram story.

Wanderers have struggled on and off the pitch ever since Davies - who sadly passed away in 2018 - stepped away from the club in 2014, and they could really do with a Mills-like leader in their team right now to try and get them back to where they belong.
