Whilst a second Wembley final in two months might be seen as successful by some, for Sunderland it is a delicate balance between redemption and failure.

After falling to Pompey in the EFL Trophy final, they're now set to face Charlton for a spot in the Championship, hoping to avoid Shrewsbury's double heartbreak last season.

Win or lose, the Black Cats are in much better shape than they were 12 months ago. The future looked very bleak as Ellis Short starved the playing squad of investment and they plummeted out of the Championship.

One year ago today former Eastleigh chairman Stewart Donald took over and the club haven't looked back. They've shed high earners and become a competitive League One side, if not dominant.

The club have put out a tweet this morning, celebrating the chairman's one-year anniversary. That's drawn supporters to Twitter, mainly looking to thank him for his tenure and the way he's helped turn the club's fortunes around.

It seems Donald is hugely popular amongst the fan base, who can see beyond the short term challenges and respect the work he's put in as he's overseen an overhaul of operations from top to bottom.
