Sunderland have signed Brendan Galloway on loan, the club's official website has confirmed.

The Black Cats have struck a deal with Everton to take the promising young defender on loan for the entirety of the 2017/18 campaign.

This makes Brendan Galloway the first signing of the summer for Sunderland since they were relegated from the Premier League.

The 20-year-old is now preparing for the next step in his development after an unsuccessful loan spell at West Brom last year.

He only managed five appearances for the Baggies, despite playing 15 Premier League games for Everton during the 2015/16 season while Leighton Baines was injured.

The England under-21 left-back, who can also play as a centre-back, adds versatility and youth to the Sunderland defence.

The former MK Dons defender will compete with Bryan Oviedo for the left-back spot.

Sunderland fans took to Twitter to share their views on their first summer capture.
