Tommy Elphick will likely have felt he was joining a promotion contender when he joined Huddersfield Town in the summer but so far you feel both player and club are likely disappointed by the move.

The 32-year-old was the Terriers' first signing of the summer, joining the club as a free-agent after seeing his contract expire at Aston Villa and signing a two-year deal with the club.

An experienced defender with more than 300 combined appearances in the Championship and League One, Elphick was brought in to try and shore up a defence that had conceded the second-most goals in the Premier League the season before.

The free-agent arrival seemed a fantastic candidate to do just that and had been a regular for last season’s play-off winners Aston Villa before suffering an ankle injury.

There was significant amount of excitement amongst many Terriers fans when the Englishman joined the club, as he appeared to be a really solid addition to the squad.

Things have not gone to plan for either Elphick or Huddersfield so far this season though. Rather than competing at the top of the Championship, the Terriers have spent the majority of the campaign in the relegation zone but have climbed out and are beginning to turn things around under new boss Danny Cowley.

Elphick has been a regular fixture in the side but has not provided the stability that Huddersfield fans will likely have been hoping for.

There is a long way to go yet, but you can't help but think that so far the club, the fans, and the player will be slightly disappointed with the move.
