Rochdale have completed the signing of former Reading defender Paul McShane on a short-term contract until January.

The Irishman has been a free-agent since his contract with the Berkshire-based side came to an end in the summer, and will be keen to make a good impression in the hope of earning an extension to his deal with the League One side.

McShane has played consistently in the Championship with both Reading and Hull City in the past, as well as playing in the top-flight for the Tigers and Sunderland earlier in his career.

But the centre-back has had his fair share of injuries in the last few years, and he'll be hoping that he has seen the back of his injury woes.

Rochdale are currently sat 19th in the League One table, and they'll be keen to see McShane add something to their side, in what has been a somewhat leaky defence so far this term.

Plenty of the club's supporters took to social media to issue their thoughts on McShane's arrival.
