‘Great news’ – Plenty of Swansea City fans react to update on player’s future

Swansea City midfielder George Byers has put pen to paper on a fresh three-year deal at the Liberty Stadium, the club has confirmed.
Byers enjoyed a successful breakthrough season at senior level last term, and he has now been rewarded with a new contract until the summer of 2022.
The 23-year-old established himself alongside Matt Grimes at the heart of Swansea’s midfield in the second half of the season, making a total of 25 appearances and scoring three goals.
His performances were enough to trigger an extension for the following two years, but the club have now acted decisively to add an additional year to the midfielder’s terms.
It has been a summer of upheaval at the Liberty Stadium with Steve Cooper replacing Graham Potter as head coach, but Byers has clearly done enough already to impress the new boss in pre-season training.
The Swans confirmed news of Byers’ fresh contract via the club’s Twitter account on Tuesday morning…

Many Swansea fans were quick to respond to the announcement, with many praising the club for tying Byers down on a long-term deal. Other supporters also expressed their surprise at the news, particularly as Byers’ future was not something that had previously been on the agenda this summer.
