Nottingham Forest pair Joe Worrall and Kieran Dowell have been named in England U21’s squad for next month’s European Championship qualifiers.

The young duo have been extremely impressive for the Reds this term, although Mark Warburton’s men have entered a disappointing run of form, winning just twice in their last eight outings.

Dowell, on loan from Everton, was part of the England U20 squad that won the World Cup in South Korea last summer, and looks set for an extremely bright future in the game.

Operating either on the wing or behind the main striker, the youngster has the ability to pull the strings, as well as chipping in with goals.

Worrall has been an absolute rock for the Reds since graduating into the first team in 2016.

The central defender had a successful summer of his own, captaining England’s team at the Toulon Tournament to victory.

The Verdict

Both players have a bright future in the game, with Premier League pedigree certainly being exhibited by the youngsters at this early stage of their careers.

A season in the Championship with Forest will do Dowell the world of good, and he will return to Goodison Park next summer with the expectation of challenging for a place in the first team squad.

Interest could be rife in Worrall next summer if Forest fail to secure promotion, with top flight clubs sure to be already keeping tabs on the commanding defender.
