Grimsby caretaker manager Paul Wilkinson revealed that three players are back in contention for the Exeter City clash in his press conference.

Siriki Dembele and Danny Collins are both back in training after injuries while Mitch Rose returns from suspension.

Although Wilkinson also disclosed that Ben Davies probably won't be ready this weekend as he also recovers from injury.

Grimsby currently sit 18th in the table with a nine point gap between them and Chesterfield who are in the top relegation spot, but the Spireites have a game in hand.

The Mariners are on a miserable run of form with two points in the last ten games and one win in the last 14. This poor run of form saw Russell Slade get the sack, but Wilkinson was unable to arrest this in his first game in charge as they slumped to a 3-1 loss against Cambridge United.

The main issue for the Mariners is their abysmal home form which has seen them pick up four wins out of a potential 17 as well as a measly 18 points. Their opponents on Saturday currently sit on the edge of the play-off positions in seventh, and will see this game as a must-win in their quest for promotion.

The Verdict

Having these three players available for selection will boost the team in different areas. Collins brings experience to the backline and Rose provides security in front of the defence as well as the occasional attacking threat.

Dembele is the key returnee, though, because he brings trickery and a creative threat in wide areas to a team that desperately needs it. 14 goals scored at home is the worst in the entire division, and it is a major issue that needs to be addressed if Grimsby want to avoid slipping into the relegation places.
