Aston Villa winger Andre Green is nearing the end of his spell on the sidelines and is hoping to return to boost Villa's push for a play off spot.

19-year old Green hasn't played for the first team since January 6th as they slipped to an FA Cup defeat at the hands of Peterborough having suffered a hamstring injury.

“I’m getting there," He told The Birmingham Mail, "I’m back in training now, it was only a little hamstring, no where near as bad as the last one. Hopefully I’ll play a game (behind closed doors) in the international break and then I can kick on from that. In two or three weeks I want to be back in the team again and available for selection. That’s my goal.”

Solihull-born Green broke through in 2015/16 as Villa were relegated, making two Premier League appearances. Last season he featured 17 times, but injury has hampered his progression this campaign. His long-term aim is to add to those early top-flight outings he had.

“Winning promotion is massive. Everyone knows we’ve got the squad capable to get up and we’re all confident. We’re in good form. We’ve got the belief there which is important. We belong in the Premier League so that’s our target now.”

Green scored his first goal in Villa colours in August as Norwich City were beaten 4-2 in Championship action.

The Verdict

Andre Green looks to have a big future ahead of him and every player returning to fitness is a boost in some way. He's yet to fully make his mark on Villa Park, but he has all the assets required to do so.

He's quick and strong and plays for the badge which is what fans appreciate most.
