Charlie Mulgrew has returned to Blackburn Rovers after cutting his season-long loan with Wigan Athletic short.

The 33-year-old joined the Latics back in August and went on to make 12 appearances for the Latics chipping in with one assist.

Mulgrew hasn't featured for Paul Cook's men since November due to a calf injury and on Wednesday opted to return to his parent club.

The Scottish international had been a mainstay in Rovers' side since he arrived at Ewood Park in 2016 and once injury-free, he could fit back into Tony Mowbray's plans.

The announcement was made just before 3pm on Wednesday and Rovers' fans were quick to respond to the news.

Plenty of supporters seemed buoyed by the news, some even demanding the 33-year-old is to be put straight into Rovers' squad.
