Nottingham Forest have announced the return of Andy Reid to the football club as he takes charge of the Reds' under-23 set-up.

Reid was plucked from Irish side Cherry Orchard as a teenager and made his way through the Forest youth ranks to become a first-team player, spending five years with the senior squad before making a move to Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur in January 2005.

Spells at Charlton, Sunderland, Sheffield United and Blackpool followed before Reid returned to the City Ground as a 28-year-old in 2011, spending the last five years of his playing career with the club.

Reid made 263 league appearances for Forest in his two playing stints, and returned yet again to the club last year as a technical coach for the under-23's, before being given the reins as manager on a caretaker basis when Chris Cohen departed in September.

The appointment has now been made permanent though and that means that Reid has to leave his coaching role at the Irish FA behind, having managed the under-18 national side for nearly two years.
