Some Reading fans have taken to Twitter to react to the club's announcement that Mark Bowen has been appointed as the club's new sporting director.

The former Welsh international defender initially joined the Royals as a technical consultant last season (via the Reading Chronicle) and has been rewarded for his work in this particular role.

As confirmed by the club's official website, Bowen will be responsible for all football operations at the Madejski Stadium.

Following an accomplished playing career which saw him make over 500 professional appearances, the 55-year-old embarked on a career in coaching in 1999 and has since worked for the likes of Manchester City, Queens Park Rangers and Stoke City.

Now at Reading, it is hoped that Bowen can continue to build a fruitful relationship with the club's manager Jose Manuel Gomes.

"Mr Dai [Yongge], the manager and I will now lend Mark our upmost support as he embarks on this new role at Reading."
