Fleetwood Town have today announced that Joey Barton will be the club's new Head Coach from June 2nf, in what will be his first managerial role.

The former Burnley midfielder, who was banned by the FA last year for 18 months for gambling on football, will replace John Sheridan in the summer who has done a fine job since he was appointed in February.

Sheridan came in after Uwe Rosler was sacked with the Cod Army in 20th position in League One and nervously looking over their shoulder.

However, the experienced boss has taken the side to 14th after a great run of form that should ensure Barton is coming into a League One club next season.

The 35-year old knows Chairman Andy Pilley well who told the club's website just how pleased he was to land the new boss.

Given his status in the game, Barton's future appointment has generated a lot of debate on twitter. Here's some of the reaction...
