Hull City manager Grant McCann has revealed that Markus Henriksen has ‘two or three teams interested’ in signing him this month, and hopes he can seal a move away.

The Norwegian international has been eager to seal a move away from the KCOM Stadium ever since the summer, despite being the club captain last season. The summer transfer window gave Henriksen the chance to move away after being cast out by Grant McCann as he searched for a club, however, a transfer never materialised and he has been left marooned ever since.

The January window has given the midfielder another chance to clinch a move elsewhere and it is vital for his career that he finds a new club to keep his momentum up for when the European Championships roll around in the summer.

It was revealed at the start of December that Henriksen was training with his hometown club, Rosenborg, ahead of a potential move there, but this hasn’t come into fruition yet.

Speaking ahead of the Tigers’ clash against Brentford on Saturday afternoon, McCann provided a number of updates on transfers to the club’s official site, including this on Henriksen’s future: “We’ve had 2 or 3 teams interested in Markus. It’s just whether it can get sorted before the deadline. With the Euro’s coming up, it’s important he goes to play football.”

Henriksen will most likely be a part of Norway’s squad as they prepare for the Euro’s, but he only has just over a day to seal a move to keep his performance levels up, as his Hull days seem over.

Do you know where these ex-Tigers are now?

The verdict

It’s a shame that Henriksen has been frozen out at Hull as he was an important player in the side and it’s even more frustrating for both the player and the club that it still hasn’t been resolved.

His last appearance for the Tigers came in May last season and that is a long time for a player not to be playing football, especially with a major tournament coming for his country.

It would be best if the club find a move for him in the next day or so as they will be shifting a player off the wage bill who bears no relevance their first-team anymore.

His qualities might still need replacing for the Tigers as their injuries continue to pile up by the week, as well as the leadership qualities that they are lacking in the middle of midfield.
