Hull City moved up to ninth in the Championship table with a 4-0 thrashing of promotion-chasing Preston North End at the KCOM Stadium on Wednesday evening.

The Tigers haven't shown consistency in their performances this season, but will be hoping they can build on this impressive showing as we head into the festive period.

Grant McCann's side will be looking to make it back-to-back wins this weekend when they travel to Oakwell to take on relegation-threatened Barnsley.

Speaking in a pre-match press conference ahead of their game against Barnsley, McCann isn't taking the Tykes' league position into account this weekend, and labelled the challenge as 'a tough game'.

"We look at Barnsley as a tough game - one we feel that if we play well, we can win. The start is going to be important for us.”

"Barnsley is an intimidating place to go but we’ll focus on ourselves and make sure our own house is in order. Oakwell is a tough place to go."

Barnsley haven't won a game since they beat Fulham on the opening day of this year's campaign, and will know that they need to improve their results at the earliest of opportunities.

But if Hull are to have any ambitions of finishing inside the top-six this season, then they'll have to pick up three points at Oakwell on Saturday.

Can you name the entire Hull City XI from their play-off final win over Sheffield Wednesday?

The Verdict:

It's certainly a game that Hull should be confident heading into.

Barnsley haven't won since the opening day of the season, and their confidence will be through the floor heading into the festive period.

If Hull can replicate the performance that they put on against Preston in midweek, then they'll take Barnsley apart with relative ease in my opinion.
