Hull City's slide down the Championship table continued as they were beaten 1-0 by relegation-threatened Barnsley at the KCOM Stadium on Wednesday evening.

Cauley Woodrow scored the only goal of the game on the night, as the defeat means that it is now ten games without a win for the Tigers.

But that only tells half of the picture as Hull have lost eight of those games, which has seen them fall into a relegation battle, which would have been unthinkable earlier in this year's campaign when they were challenging for a top-six finish.

Speaking in a post-match press conference after the defeat to Barnsley, Hull boss Grant McCann labelled the game against Marcelo Bielsa's side as 'tough' and feels as though they are one of the best teams currently in the Championship.

"We’ve got a very, very tough game on Saturday. One of the best teams in the league are coming here.

Leeds are currently sat second in the second-tier standings, and will be looking to make it four wins in a row after a 1-0 win over Middlesbrough in midweek.

McCann went on to state that his team will get 'hammered' by the Whites if they put in a similar performance to the one against Barnsley on Wednesday.

"If we perform like we did (against Barnsley) then we’ll get hammered. That’s exactly what I’ve told the group.

"We need to roll our sleeves up now, do it for themselves, do it for their families, do it for this football club. They need to start taking responsibility and that’s everyone."

The Verdict:

I have to agree with McCann here.

Hull were extremely poor against Barnsley, and that defeat has seen the sides in the relegation zone close the gap on Grant McCann's side, which will make for concerning reading with 11 games left of this year's campaign.

Leeds have been one of the best teams in the Championship this season, and given the way they are playing now, I can't see Hull being able to cope with the intensity that Leeds play with under the management of Marcelo Bielsa.

Something needs to change at Hull, otherwise they'll be sleepwalking into the relegation zone in the near future.
