Hull City manager Grant McCann has admitted that he would love to bring Liverpool midfielder Herbie Kane to the KCOM Stadium on loan next season, but admits his side are not alone in their admiration of the 20-year-old.

McCann and Kane enjoyed an impressive partnership last season, when the newly appointed Hull manager brought the midfielder on loan to Doncaster for the season.

During his time at the Keepmoat Stadium, Kane scored seven goals and provided nine assists in 49 appearances in all competitions to help the Yorkshire side to a place in the League One play-offs, where they were knocked out by eventual promotion winners Charlton in the semi-finals.

Now, McCann has revealed that he would be keen on a reunion with the Liverpool youngster next season, as he told BBC Radio Humberside: “Herbie’s top class, he really is.

“He’s a Liverpool player. He will be going out on loan, I know that for sure."

Hull's Championship rivals Brentford and Charlton have also been linked with a move for Kane this summer, as have Scottish Premier League side Rangers, and McCann has conceded that that could make things difficult for the Tigers, as he added: “Would we like him? Yes. Could we get him? I’m not sure.

“He’s a player we definitely like. I would hope (working with him last season) would put us in the driving seat a little bit but there’s some big clubs in for him. We’ll have to wait and see.”

Kane has yet to make a single senior appearance for Liverpool during his time with the European champions, although the midfielder did only sign a new deal at Anfield back in December.

The Verdict

You can see why McCann is so keen to bring Kane back.

The midfielder was hugely impressive for someone who had experienced so little first-team football at Doncaster last year, so you only imagine that he will be ready to build on that further in the coming campaign.

You feel that McCann - who got so much out of him at the Keepmoat Stadium - will be similarly confident of doing the same should he manage to bring him to the KCOM Stadium in the coming campaign, and that connection between the two should help Hull's cause here.

With the futures of the likes of Jarrod Bowen, Kamil Grosicki and Markus Henriksen still up in the air, the addition of a midfield talent such as Kane to Hull's side could yet prove even more important than may first have been expected, should the Tigers manage to pull this deal off.
