Brighton are still waiting for permission from Swansea City to speak to manager Graham Potter over the vacant managerial position at the Amex Stadium and are not planning an approach for Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder, according to journalist Tom Barclay.
Potter is the favourite to succeed Chris Hughton at Brighton, who was sacked earlier this week, despite keeping the club in the Premier League and helping the team reach the semi-finals of the FA Cup this season.
Football Insider reported today that Swansea rejected an initial approach for Potter from Brighton and that the Premier League club are now ready to turn their attentions to Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder.
The report states that Brighton are planning to make an approach for the Blades boss within the next 48 hours, however, Tom Braclay, a football reporter for The Sun, has delivered an update on the situation via Twitter, suggesting that Wilder is not on the club's radar.
Wilder was able to guide Sheffield United to automatic promotion from the Championship this season, just two years after helping the club win the League One title.
The Verdict:
This is a very interesting update.
Potter is a good manager and has done a great job for Swansea this season, guiding the club to a top-half finish in the Championship and helping the team reach the quarter-finals of the FA Cup, on a relativity limited budget.
Wilder has had an outstanding season for Sheffield United and would also be a good appointment for Brighton, but this latest update from Barclay suggests that they are not interested in him.
