Swansea winger Jefferson Montero hasn’t had the impact he would have liked to this season for the Championship side- but the latest news will be a huge boost to his side.
Montero made his comeback from a lengthy spell on the sidelines as a substitute in the win over Bolton before the international break.
But many fans were surprised to see the winger substituted after just 36 minutes for Ecuador in their game against Peru on Friday, but Graham Potter admitted that it was planned for the winger to only play a limited amount of time for his country.
“The plan was for Jeff to play around half an hour of the Ecuador game, whether it was from the start or as a substitute,” Potter said when speaking with Swansea’s official website.
The Swansea boss also revealed that he came through the game for Ecuador unscathed and is set to play a part in their game this weekend when he returns from international duty.
“There are no reports of any problems so we are looking forward to seeing him come back on Thursday with the rest of the guys.
“It will be good for Jeff that he has got some time on the pitch in a competitive game under his belt.”
Swansea return to action this weekend against table-toppers Norwich City in what will be a tough game for the Welsh side.
Montero’s return to action is a huge boost to Swansea who have struggled for creativity at times in recent games.
Luckily, they are still in the promotion hunt this season and Montero will play a vital part in their challenge for an immediate return to the Premier League.
We have seen glimpses of his quality this season but he will be keen to rediscover the sort of form that made him a fans favourite at times during their time in the top-flight.
