Swansea City manager Graham Potter has revealed that defender Joe Rodon is "making progress" as he edges closer towards a return to first-team action, after speaking to the club website.

The central defender has been out of action since the latter stages of January, where he sustained a broken metatarsal injury in the Swans' 1-0 home win over high-flying Sheffield United at the Liberty Stadium.

The 21-year-old has since missed Swansea's last six Sky Bet Championship matches, with Graham Potter's hopes of guiding his side to a play-off finish slowly but surely fading away.

But speaking ahead of his side's trip to league leaders Norwich City on Friday night, Potter delivered a promising update on Rodon's injury, stating that the young defender has now had his protective cast removed, and is scheduled to return after a short international break.

He said: "Joe is making progress, he is out of his cast so he can start stepping things up - it is a similar timescale to the one we mentioned before, it will be after the international break for him."

Rodon forged a solid partnership with Mike van der Hoorn at the start of the campaign, and Swansea fans will be urging the Welsh international to make a return to the side sooner rather than later.

The Swans currently sit 14th in the league table, seven points off the top six.

The Verdict

The sooner Rodon returns, the better from a Swansea perspective.

The young defender was a regular for Potter in the early stages of the season, and has been magnificent at the back next to van der Hoorn this term.

If Swansea are going to achieve what currently seems an unlikely play-off finish, then having Rodon back would be a massive boost for them.
