Luton Town manager Graeme Jones has expressed his delight at re-signing winger Kazenga LuaLua, after initally rejecting a new deal to extend his stay at Kenilworth Road.

The 28-year-old signed for the Hatters on a free transfer last September, scoring three goals and adding nine assists as they were crowed champions of League One last season.

The winger then rejected an offer to stay at Kenilworth Road at the end of last season, which made it looks as if a deal was completely dead the water.

But now, the former Newcastle and Brighton wide-man has re-signed for the club, putting pen to paper on a new deal at Kenilworth Road.

Speaking about this surprising U-turn, Hatters boss Jones expressed his delight at LuaLua re-signing for the club, 11 days before they kick off the brand new Championship campaign with a home clash against Middlesbrough.

He said via Luton Today: "I am delighted, because he was one of the players that when I initially watched the team from January onwards, I really, really liked.

"He has got wonderful ability and sometimes you can have a talented player that doesn’t want to work back, but Kaz is the opposite of that, he is prepared to be a team player.

"He has got that natural talent that is wonderful to see and we need it. He is my type of player, because he opens teams up with his individual talent and we need that and we need a mixture of everything."

Luton have been very active in the summer transfer window thus far, with Callum McManaman, Ryan Tunnicliffe, Martin Cranie, Brendan Galloway, Simon Sluga and LuaLua signing on for the 2019/20 season.

The Verdict

This is a transfer story that Luton fans would not have been expecting, but they will be absolutely delighted all the same.

On a free transfer, LuaLua was an absolute steal of a transfer last season, and you could tell that he was a class above League One at times.

He is fast, tricky, and can take on defenders with ease, and he will be influential for Luton as they prepare to embark on the Championship next season.
