Luton boss Graeme Jones faces a difficult challenge in his first managerial job, as he aims to turn the Hatters into a competitive force in the Championship.

The former striker has taken on secondary coaching roles throughout his career so far, with the Luton job being his first time in the hot seat at a club.

He worked with Belgium boss Roberto Martinez for much of his career before linking up with Darren Moore at West Brom last season, but he has now been tasked with continuing Luton's progression following their League One promotion.

Jones has made positive noises since his appointment earlier this month, and he recently revealed to Luton Today that he will not be looking to cash on Luton's key players that got the club to this stage.

It is important that the 49-year-old largely sticks to this mantra, with a number of clubs already circling around the club's most prized assets early on in the summer.

One player who will have caught the eye is Jack Stacey, with the right-back earning wide plaudits for his contribution to Luton's success as he eventually scooped the club's Player of the Year prize.

The right-back only missed one league match for the club last season, as he established himself on the right flank and recorded 45 league appearances in the third tier.

It is pivotal that Jones maintains the services of Stacey next season as he is now more than capable of leading Luton's charge into the second tier, where he is set to face his former side.

Stacey started his career at Reading when he joined the club in 2004. He progressed right through the Royals' youth system, but failed to make his mark in the first team amid a series of loan spells.

The 23-year-old only ended up recording six appearances for his boyhood club, before joining Luton in 2017 after a successful season on loan at Exeter City.

The defender has reached new heights since leaving the Berkshire side by displaying his ambitious style of defensive play on the Luton flank to help the club secure back-to-back promotions.

He has been a mightily impressive player since arriving at Kenilworth Road, and he has fully earned his chance to show the Championship what he is capable of.
