Luton Town manager Graeme Jones has admitted that his squad know there are places up for grabs in his side's starting lineup following a difficult recent run of form.

Jones has named an unchanged starting XI for the back to back league defeats to QPR and Hull that have seen the Hatters slip to 21st in the Championship since returning from the September international break.

Now however, Jones has suggested that he may be open to more rotation in the Championship, ahead of his side's trip to Ewood Park to face Blackburn Rovers on Saturday.

Speaking to Dunstable Today about the impact that 3-0 defeat at home to Hull last weekend could have on his starting XI for this weekend, Jones revealed: “There’s competition for places.

“When you get beat at home (to Hull) like that, you have to look at the whole group."

Despite that, Jones appears to have been impressed with his side so far this season, and explaining the reason behind the lack of rotation in his side's lineup recently, the Luton boss claimed: “The team has been quite consistent, it’s been rewarded on its merits, on how they’ve competed in the seven Championship games, Saturday was the eighth.

“But there are places up for grabs, I can assure you."

One player who Jones was asked about as an option to be brought into the squad was George Moncur.

The midfielder has started just once in the league this season, but played 60 minutes of Luton's 4-0 defeat to Leicester in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night, and discussing whether Moncur is in contention ahead of the weekend, Jones responded: "They all are, I’m assessing everybody.

"George has contributed in the games, but I’m assessing every single player at the minute."

The Verdict

I think this apparent willingness to rotate is the right move for Jones to make here.

Having struggled for results recently, it does seem as Luton may need to change something soon in order to start picking up those all-important points.

If they don't, then they do run the risk of being cut adrift at the wrong end of the Championship, and that could be a concern for Jones' own individual ambitions.

Geroge Moncur does also seem like one man that could be worth considering for Jones, given the impact he showed he can have for the Hatters at times on the way to their promotion from League One as champions last season.
