Bristol City will have a decision to make over the future of on-loan Stoke City forward Benik Afobe at the end of the season and it appears many fans of the South West club want to see him signed permanently.

The 27-year-old joined on a season-long loan from the Potters on transfer deadline day and made a fast start at Ashton Gate – scoring three times in his first five games for the Robins.

However, he suffered a nasty ligament injury in September that it was suggested could keep him out for the rest of the season.

Afobe's rehabilitation appears to be going very well and the striker was back training with City a few weeks before EFL fixtures were suspended due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The delay means that if the season does return, the 27-year-old will be able to play some part for Lee Johnson's side.

If the current campaign is cut short or abandoned, however, the South West club will have an even more difficult decision on their hands.

City do have the option to sign Afobe permanently in the summer but, according to the Bristol Post, they will have to pay a fee in the region of £6 million to do so.

That would be a big call following the arrival of Nahki Wells in January – particularly if they are unable to see Afobe back on the pitch before then.

It appears fans of the South West club want the Robins to pull the trigger, however, as many took to Twitter to urge them to sign the striker permanently.
