‘Got the experience we need’ – Many Charlton Athletic fans react to managerial appointment

Charlton Athletic have found a new manager with Nigel Adkins taking charge of the League One club.
The club have confirmed this morning that Adkins has put pen to paper on a two-and-a-half year deal at the Valley, and he will take his first training session this morning.
Charlton were on the lookout for a new manager following Lee Bowyer’s departure to Birmingham City earlier this week, with Adkins now taking the reins.

After making his first managerial appointment as owner, Thomas Sandgaard said: “I believe Nigel is the perfect personality, with the perfect background and the perfect experience to get us to where we want to be. Both Nigel and I want us to playing football in the Premier League and I can’t wait to see us there.”
Charlton sit just inside the play-off places in League One, and Adkins will be looking to use his experience to guide them to promotion this term.
The 56-year-old has won promotion four times in his managerial career – twice with Scunthorpe United, and twice with Southampton.
He had been out of work since the end of the 2018/19 season, after leaving Hull City upon the end of his contract at the KCOM Stadium.
Here, we take a look at Charlton fans’ reactions to his appointment at the Valley…
No No No No… awful appointment, complete lack of ambition. Roddy out! So disappointed in Thomas for this mess.

May not be people's first choice, but I'm happy with it. Adkins has had a successful career at this level, he has a positive attitude which is completely different to Bows, he likes his sides to play attacking football, and gives youth players a chance. Sounds good to me.

Wouldn’t have been my first choice but we have to be realistic also. Now he’s appointed let’s get behind him 💯 and leave the negative chat behind, fresh slate starts Saturday 👍

God, give the guy a chance. He is not my first choice, but putting things in perspective, a few year sago we would have been happy to have him in charge. Let's all not forget the crap managers we had under Roland.

Cannot understand how people are unhappy with this

Gonna fully back him but still won’t forget how disrespectful he has been to us in the past. Going to take a lot for me to like the geezer. Main thing for me is that Jacko is staying. #cafc
