Brentford manager Thomas Frank is looking to strengthen his squad before the transfer window closes and is looking into a move for Barnsley forward Jacob Brown, according to The Sun journalist Alan Nixon on Twitter.

Brown, 21, is a regular for the Tykes and has scored twice and provided eights assists in 25 appearances so far this season and still has two years left on his deal at Oakwell.

So would Brown be a good addition at Griffin Park and is he actually needed by Thomas Frank's side?

We discuss.........

Jacob Potter

"I think this would be a smart bit of business by the Bees if they can get this deal over the line before Deadline Day.

"Brown has been a rare bright spark for Barnsley this season, and I’m not surprised to see him attracting interest from a team further up the Championship table.

"Brown has two goals and eight assists to his name in all competitions this season, and he’d provide Brentford with some strength in depth in attacking areas of the pitch.

"You have to imagine that a move to Brentford will be a tempting proposition for the Barnsley man, as they’re well in contention to finish inside the play-off places this term.

"Brentford are a team that are going places clearly, but I do have my doubts as to whether he’d be a regular stater there.

"Then again, he does strike me as the sort of player that is capable of forcing his way into Thomas Frank’s plans in the future."

Phil Spencer

“This is a player who has got Brentford written all over him.

“The Bees have a strong history of signing high potential and undervalued players and turning them into established performers in the Championship and beyond.

“Jacob Brown certainly falls into this category with his raw, exciting performances for Barnsley this term.

“The Tykes could be in League One next term, meaning that he’s a player who could be on the move.

“As for Brentford, the likes of Ollie Watkins and Said Benrahma are likely to draw interest from clubs higher up the food chain in the summer and so signing an attacking player could be exactly what they’re after.

“I’d be surprised if it happened in January, but it’s certainly one to watch next summer.”

Kris Smith

“I think this would be a very smart signing to add strong cover to Brentford’s lethal front three, ensuring they have the adequate depth to go the distance.

“There aren’t many players in the Championship who would be able to displace any of Ollie Watkins, Said Benrahma, or Bryan Mbuemo, so an attacking signing would provide cover in the event that any of those left or became unavailable.

“I doubt Barnsley would be willing to part ways with such a crucial player to their system but their hands might be tied if Brown wants the move.

“I think it would be a very solid signing for Brentford and adding cover ahead of the promotion run-in is vital to ensure they maintain consistency, regardless of who is playing.”
