Leeds United have put themselves in a strong position to make a long-awaited return to the Premier League, with Marcelo Bielsa's side just a point adrift of the automatic promotion places.

Leeds were last in the top flight back in 2004, and supporters will feel as though a potential promotion this season would be long overdue.

The Whites have looked like the team to beat this season, and the Elland Road faithful will be hoping that they can finish the job off and reach the Premier League.

Former Leeds midfielder Gordon Strachan issued his verdict on his former side, and feels as though the Yorkshire-based outfit would certainly add something to the Premier League if they win promotion.

“It’s already a very good league, probably the best-watched in the world. When Leeds join millions more are going to watch it," he told LeedsLive.

“If Leeds got into the Premier League there’re going to be a lot of games shown at Elland Road because the atmosphere is terrific, it fills the screen."

Strachan was part of Leeds' title-winning side in 1992 and he feels as though they would fit into the Premier League with no problem at all, he continued: "They can add to the league.

"There’re not many teams that could add to the league. Teams go in, go out or there’s an indifference to them."

Leeds will be hoping to return to the top two when they are next in action against relegation-threatened Millwall at Elland Road, where they will be expected to pick up an all-important three points.

The Verdict

He's spot on.

I don't think they would have much trouble adjusting to the Premier League if they were to win promotion this season.

I could see them following a similar route as to Wolves, and Leeds would certainly be confident of retaining their place in the top flight for many seasons to come.
