Thursday was the 19th anniversary of Leeds United’s famous Champions League victory against AC Milan at Elland Road, which has elicited quite the response from many Whites fans.

Leeds had been hammered 4-0 by Barcelona in their opening game in Group H but less than a week later pulled off a sensational 1-0 win against the Italian giants in front of a raucous home crowd.

Lee Bowyer’s long-range strike snuck in after a fumble from Milan goalkeeper Dida to give Leeds an 89th-minute winner.

The result would kick-start a fantastic European run for the Yorkshire club, which saw them hammer Besiktas 6-0, get results at both the San Siro and Nou Camp, and beat Deportivo La Coruña in the quarter-final before losing to Valencia in the semi-final.

Leeds posted a clip of the late winner on their official Twitter account yesterday, which generated an excited response from large parts of their fanbase.

Many Whites supporters took to Twitter to reminisce about the game itself and the success of the team at the time.
