Following their relegation from the Premier League, the mood was strangely positive around West Brom after Darren Moore brought back a badly needed feel good factor to the West Midland's side.

But, there was undoubtedly work to do in the summer and the board were clearly happy to back Moore in the market.

Just over £11million was spent on the likes of Sam Johnstone, Kyle Bartley and Connor Townsend with a  smattering of free transfers also making the move to the Hawthorns.

However, after Salomon Rondon made his move to Newcastle United on loan, the Baggies were short of a striker.

Luckily, one came in the other direction.

This is FLW Rewind, where we take a look back at a big decision made by a club, analyse the initial reaction and document what happened next.

Having helped fire Newcastle to the second tier title two seasons previously, Dwight Gayle arrived as somebody who clearly knew how to do the business.

Losing Rondon was obviously a sizeable blow but with somebody of Gayle's pedigree coming in the opposite direction, the fans were more than content...

As we now approach the end of the season, if anything these fans underplayed just how good a signing this was.

Gayle has bagged 23 Championship goals in 37 appearances, helping comfortably secure a place in the top-six for West Brom in the process.

He spent much of the season playing in an unflavoured wide position too, a decision which led to a poor run of form and the eventual sacking of Moore.

But even through all the drama, Gayle has always come back firing, proving to be a truly excellent Championship striker once again.
