The Papy Djilobodji saga has finally been brought to an end, with the player and Sunderland reaching an agreement before a potentially damaging court case could take place.

The details of the settlement have not been released, but the short and simple message from the club read: "Sunderland AFC has reached an agreement with Papy Djilobodji for his departure, his employment having terminated on 21 September 2018."

Djilobodji had began to represent everything that has been bad with Sunderland over the past few seasons, an overpaid and under-performing professional who had little interest in helping them once they tumbled out of the to flight.

His departure will not be mourned and the fans on Twitter were coming out in big numbers to applaud the club. They've remained steadfast in their approach to both him and Didier Ndong, standing up for themselves in the face of player power.

Nobody will miss Djilobodji, as demonstrate in their anger-filled replies to the club's tweet.
