Middlesbrough striker Martin Braithwaite has joined La Liga side Leganes on a permanent deal and many Boro fans appear delighted to see him go.

Braithwaite joins Leganes after spending the second half of last season on loan with the club, during which time he scored five goals and provided seven assists.

He has signed a four-year deal with the Spanish side and will join up with the rest of the squad for pre-season today.

The 28-year-old's exit wraps up an unusual two-year spell at the Riverside, which saw the striker make 40 appearances for Boro and go out on loan twice.

The Danish international joined from Toulouse for a reported fee of £9 million in the summer of 2017 but struggled to ever really make an impact.

In both his seasons at Boro, Braithwaite made nearly 20 Championship appearances during the first half of the campaign but was sent on loan in the January transfer window.

The fee that Leganes have paid for the 28-year-old is currently unknown but new boss Jonathan Woodgate will undoubtedly be looking to reinvest the funds recovered in this deal ahead of the new season.

It appears Braithwaite has not been a fan favourite at the Riverside and many fans of the club were quick to celebrate his departure.
