‘Good riddance’ – These Bristol Rovers fans are not happy with 27-y/o’s social media post

Stefan Payne completed a move from Bristol Rovers to Tranmere this weekend, putting a year to forget well and truly behind him.

He joined the Gas at the beginning of last season from Shrewsbury Town, but his move quickly went sour. He struggled for form and was fined for making gestures to the home supporters.

That led to the former Barnsley man going back out on loan to Shrewsbury, having already played for them at the beginning of the season. It was the only move he could make due to EFL rules, but he didn’t impress in his second spell at the New Meadow.

He now has a chance to rebuild his career at Prenton Park and tweeted his delight at sealing the switch. He also left a sharp comment at the end of his social media post, claiming he was looking forward to playing in front of a ‘proper fan base.’

That was immediately picked up on by supporters of Bristol Rovers, who took him to task over both his lack of goals and his attitude during his time with them, as you’ll read below.
