‘Good riddance’ – Aston Villa fans unfazed by imminent departure

Aston Villa supporters will be hoping for much better from their side when the new Championship season gets underway next month.
The Villans suffered relegation from the Premier League back in 2016, but optimism was somewhat renewed 12 months ago following the appointment of former Chelsea boss Roberto Di Matteo as manager.
However, the Italian lasted just 12 games before losing his job last October, which saw former Birmingham chief Steve Bruce take over and lead the side to a 13th place finish in the table, albeit a hefty 18 points adrift of the play-off places.
And the Villa Park faithful will be sincerely hoping that the 56-year-old can lead a promotion push next term, although it’s evident from their shortcomings last season that reinforcements will be needed to aid in that quest.
Yet one man who is unlikely to be donning the claret and blue of Villa next time round is midfielder Jordan Veretout.
The 24-year-old moved to the Midlands outfit back in 2015 but has failed to make a meaningful impact at the club, and last season was shipped out on loan to French side Saint-Etienne.
And it is there where Veretout looks set to be heading once again, with recent reports suggesting that the Ligue 1 club are set to complete a permanent deal for the midfielder, reported to be around £4.5 million.
And this news has provoked quite the reaction from Villa supporters on Twitter, with many seemingly pleased to see the Frenchman leave…
Veretout can go for me , decent player but clearly doesn’t want to be at villa #avfc #utv

People moaning about Veretout leaving? He did about as much for us as Djemba-Djemba or Mathieu Berson & he doesn’t want to play for us #AVFC

People are saying replacing Veretout with Whelan is a bad thing. I just don’t get that. #avfc

And Veretout has been terrible, no where near worth what we paid, the clubs fault for paying such a daft fee in the first place #avfc

As for Veretout, good riddance. Shown zero to nothing in an #AVFC shirt and doesn’t want to be here.
