Birmingham City have had their fair share of strikers that haven't made the impact that they would have originally hoped for in their time with the club.

But one player that doesn't fit that description is Mikael Forssell, with the forward netting 33 goals in total in his five years with the Blues.

One season that will stand out for the majority of Birmingham City supporters is their 2003/04 league campaign, where the Finnish forward hit 17 league goals as they finished tenth in the top-flight.

OptaJoe took to Twitter to recognised that achievement, and Forssell responded to that recognition by labelling it as the 'good old days' which is likely to raise a smile amongst the Birmingham City fans.

Forssell remained with Birmingham until the conclusion of the 2007/08 season, when he left the club after his contract expired, in favour of a move to German side Hannover 96.

Birmingham were relegated in that league season, but Forssell finished as the club's top goalscorer with nine goals to his name in total.

He went on to return to England for a brief spell with Leeds United, before announcing his retirement from professional football in May 2018 after concluding his career with Finnish side HIFK.

The Verdict:

What a player he was for Birmingham City.

Forssell's goal record speaks for itself, and his performances certainly went down well with the club's supporters, who will be crying out for a striker out his quality in front of goal.

The days have playing in the Premier League will feel like a distant memory for plenty of Birmingham fans, with the club struggling to mount any sort of challenge for a top-six finish in the Championship in recent years.
