Sky Sports' EFL pundit David Prutton believes that Leeds United are looking very much like promotion candidates after a mixed start to the season.

The Whites enjoyed a flying start and were top of the league in September. However a dreadful run followed which left them outside the play-offs.

Whilst Leeds are still four points away from the top six now, things are picking up again and the Yorkshire Evening Post report how Prutton reckons those experiences will help the team.

“I think what we have seen has been a character building process where Thomas has probably learnt a lot about the team, the fans have learnt a lot about the team and the fans have learned a lot about Thomas. It gives them a great perspective I think for the rest of the season.”

Thomas Christiansen’s men have a reasonably friendly fixture list over Christmas, facing two of the current bottom three and whilst acknowledging any game is tough, the former Leeds midfielder thinks they can capitalise.

“Leeds’ games over Christmas are all good games and they are games that if you were looking at purely on positions and results then you would say a big tick for Leeds for those.”

The Verdict

Leeds certainly do capable of pushing on in the second half of the season and fans must be quietly optimistic about what the season can bring.

Christiansen and the team appear to have rediscovered their early season form and are playing some great football and importantly picking up results.

As Prutton says, the play-offs look a real possibility and these next five games provide Leeds with the chance to build some real momentum.
