The Championship is back this weekend after a weekend off thanks to the international break and all that that entails.

Indeed, it's always a good time to take stock of the season so far and where clubs might feel they can improve and Ipswich Town should probably be fairly happy with their start.

Certainly, they've shown that they are capable of taking on the bigger sides in the league this year and a top six spot shouldn't be out of the question - though it will be difficult.

For sure, we'll get a better idea of their play-off credentials when they play Sheffield United this weekend but, ahead of that game, they've been handed a boost with Tommy Smith back in training.

As per the Tractor Boys' official Twitter account, Smith is back in amongst the senior squad and working with them as he looks to get back into Mick McCarthy's first team:

For sure, then, this is good news for Ipswich and though it remains to be seen if he makes the squad for their trip to Bramall Lane, he is bound to make a match-day squad before too long.

The Verdict

Ipswich have had a few injuries to contend with this season but they are gradually getting through them and this latest recovery will be more than welcome.

Smith is a top member of the squad to have around and he'll be pushing to get back into the side as Ipswich look to tot up the points.
