Aston Villa fans will be hoping that 2019 is a much more positive year for them than what was a rather turbulent 2018. 

A push for promotion was followed by play-off final defeat. Then financial disarray followed as did new owners and what turned out to be a rather promising transfer window in a chaotic couple of months.

Flash-forward half a season and Villa sit in tenth place in the Championship table, five points behind Derby County who currently occupy the final play-off place.

One player who probably encapsulates their erratic first half of the season is goalkeeper and summer signing Orjan Nyland.

The Norwegian has proven to be both a very good shot-stopper but also incredibly error-prone, with plenty of his mistakes leading directly to goals.

He ruptured his Achilles tendon after the 1-1 draw with Preston North End last week, having surgery on Thursday to try and speed up the recovery.

Despite his mixed time at the club, the fans were still happy to see the procedure went well.
