Sheffield Wednesday striker Jack Marriott is set to be sidelined for "six to seven weeks" due to a calf injury, which has drawn an interesting reaction from fans of the Yorkshire club.

The Owls slumped to a 1-0 defeat against Preston yesterday, in what was Tony Pulis' first game in charge of the Hillsborough outfit.

Marriott was absent from the game against the Lancashire club and, speaking to Yorkshire Live after the game, the new Wednesday boss explained his absence.

He said: "Jack’s back at Derby. We think it’s long term. I think it’s his calf, but whatever it is we don’t see him for six or seven weeks."

The 26-year-old joined the Owls on loan from Derby County late in the summer window but has failed to make much of an impact.

Marriott has featured seven times in total for Wednesday and failed to score once, though goals have been few and far between in general for the current squad.

Only bottom of the table Derby have scored fewer goals in the Championship this season but it seems the on-loan striker is not a very popular figure among the Hillsborough faithful.
