Derby County manager Phillip Cocu says he has no concerns about throwing Wayne Rooney back into his side for the Rams' trip to Bournemouth on Saturday afternoon.

Rooney only returned to training after a period of self-isolation on Friday afternoon, although it seems Cocu has seen enough from the former England captain to be confident of handing him a quick return to action.

Speaking to Derbyshire Live about Rooney's availability for the trip to The Vitality Stadium, Cocu said: "Wayne trained today (Friday) and he is happy to be back after two weeks.

"He made a real good impression, he looks fit, he worked hard to keep his fitness up as good as possible in the environment of his home. He is available."
In the absence of Rooney, Derby have been employing a 4-3-3 formation in recent matches, and Cocu is confident that is something the 35-year-old will be able to cope with.

Responding when asked if he thought Rooney would be able to adapt to that change, the Dutchman said: "Wayne can play in the system we play now, without a doubt.
"He can play different positions, he can play in the forward positions, he can play in midfield. I don't think it is a big difference for him.

"Maybe midfield, if we have three at the back, is a little bit more solid. It could even benefit him as a striker, he would have the freedom to find the space to receive the ball. He gives the team a lot."
Derby go into the game on the south coast 22nd in the Championship table, one point from safety in the early Championship standings.
The Verdict
Fair play to Rooney here.
The fact that even at the latter stage of his career, he is able to get himself fit and ready to play so soon after a spell away from training, is testament to his fitness and dedication to Derby.
You also feel that this will be a huge boost for Derby full stop, given the influence he possesses, and Cocu's suggestion that the Rams' formation change is something that will surely have Derby fans rubbing their hands in anticipation.
