League Two side Bristol Rovers have announced defender Jack Baldwin’s contract at the Memorial Stadium has been terminated, ending his 13-month stay in south-west England.

Baldwin first arrived at the club last July on a free transfer from Salford City, signing a two-year contract at the club and making 38 appearances last term in League One despite not being able to save the Gas from the drop.

He was a regular for Joey Barton once again this term, playing a part in three of their first four League Two matches of the season and appearing in their 2-0 home loss to Cheltenham Town in the Carabao Cup earlier this month.

However, they have lost three of their opening four league fixtures and are currently battling at the bottom end of the fourth tier, a continuation of their poor form after conceding 70 goals in 46 league games last term.

As per the tweet sent out from Bristol Rovers’ official Twitter account confirming his departure, his contract has been terminated to allow the 28-year-old to “allowing him to pursue opportunities elsewhere”.

Barton’s side have recruited Mark Hughes on a free transfer and Connor Taylor on loan from Stoke City as centre-back reinforcements this summer, with Baldwin following Max Ehmer as another high-profile departure in defence.

And considering the Bristol Rovers manager has taken charge of the club’s recruitment drive in recent months, this latest action is likely to be his decision.

After this announcement, we take a look at how some supporters of the League Two side have reacted to it on Twitter.
