The worst-kept secret at Ipswich Town was confirmed today as Sam Morsy was named the club's new captain.

With a plethora of new signings arriving over the summer - 19 to be precise - Paul Cook had a tough choice on his hands as to who he wanted to lead his side this season.

A number of different players including Lee Evans and Macauley Bonne have shouldered the responsibility on a game-by-game basis but once Morsy was signed late in the transfer window it became apparent that he would be the man to take on the role.

The Egypt international captained both Chesterfield and Wigan Athletic when Cook was in charge and clearly needing an experienced leader in the engine room for the Tractor Boys he was able to pull off somewhat of a coup to sign Morsy from Championship side Middlesbrough.

As soon as Morsy's three-match suspension was over following a red card in his final game for Boro, he was straight into Cook's line-up and immediately took the armband and hasn't relinquished it since.

There's been an upturn in form as well since Morsy's introduction with the Suffolk side winning three times as well as picking up a draw in five outings.

Ipswich fans have been reacting to the news of Morsy becoming the new captain and it's fair to say there's been a positive response.
