Cardiff City saw their stay in the top-flight cut cruelly short following their 2017/18 promotion, finishing just two points from safety.

But they are clearly determined for their stay in the Championship to be a short one and they moved a step closer to completing a raid for Middlesbrough centre-back Aden Flint on Thursday.

Flint only made the move to the Riverside from Bristol City last summer for a fee of around £7million but according to the report the Blue Birds will bring him in for just £4million.

If all goes to plan, he is likely to be confirmed as a Cardiff player in the next 24hours as Neil Warnock looks to revamp his side upoin their Championship return.

Last season saw Flint start 39 times under Tony Pulis as Boro briefly threatened to win promotion before dropping out of the top-six entirely towards the end of the campaign.

And, in Middlesbrough, it is safe to say that opinions are divided on the deal...
