Sheffield Wednesday have confirmed that their points deduction has been reduced from 12 to six points, which has drawn an excited response from fans of the Yorkshire club.

The Owls were handed the original sanction after they were found to have breached the EFL's profitability and sustainability rules by including the sale of Hillsborough in their 2017/18 accounts despite the fact the stadium was sold the following year.

Reports emerged yesterday afternoon and Wednesday were quick to confirm that the appeal the club had filed against the punishment handed to them was upheld in part.

With their sanction reduced to just a six-point deduction, the Owls are now just one point behind Derby County and three points from safety.

Garry Monk's side have had a rough spell since the October international break, losing four of their last six games, but bounced back against Bournemouth in midweek and could move out of the relegation places should they beat Millwall on the weekend.
