After Angus Kinnear told the Yorkshire Evening Post that Victor Orta is working on things concerning deals with loan players where their original expiry is nearly up, Noel Whelan has said some players will need to brace for disappointment.

The Sky Bet Championship is set to resume in June and things have certainly been strange in the last couple of months.

Indeed, one area where there's no real precedent is over players currently at clubs on loan whose deals would normally expire in summer, now potentially expiring in the season.

Certainly, it's something that clubs are going to have to work out together on and Orta is clearly doing that for Leeds.

For Whelan, though, some uncertainty and disappointment lies ahead.

He said via Football Insider:

“There’s going to be disappointments across the board at many, many clubs when it comes to players – they’re undecided on their future, other clubs don’t know if they can let a player go now.

“There’s going to be a lot more disappointment than we think right now because no one knows the future and how things are going to pan out after this.

“Everyone’s very uncertain – until the season’s probably finished and we have an idea of how everything’s going to play out, people can’t really make decisions and judgements right now."

The Verdict

Leeds have several players on loan and will hope that they get the chance to keep them on for a while yet.

What the future holds in terms of player deals remains to be seen, though, with the summer window also expected to be largely different to what has gone on in recent years.

Clubs are in uncharted waters and whoever navigates them best will be in a strong position once normality resumes.
