Middlesbrough could welcome Rudy Gestede back into the matchday squad for the midweek clash with Nottingham Forest.
The striker has missed the majority of this season with a injury, but will be put through his paces against Aston Villa .
It was reported by the Northern Echo that Gestede could start Middlesbrough’s game against Forest on Tuesday night, however this now seems unlikely with the returning star playing 60 minutes of the under-23 clash against Aston Villa on Monday night.
Middlesbrough will be delighted that the striker is closing in on a return as injuries continue to bite.
Britt Assombalonga is a huge doubt for the trip to the City Ground and the return of Gestede could be a timely boost as the Teessiders prepare for a hectic winter schedule.
Unfortunately some supporters aren’t as enthusiastic about his return.
One supporter shared the news of Rudy Gestede’s U23 return in a Middlesbrough supporters page on Facebook and attracted quite a response.
Here’s what some fans had to say.
Colin Ibitson: “God help us.”
Leigh Peckitt: “Everything is okay now. Rudy will save us. He’s such a warrior I think he will inspire the whole team and we will storm up that table…or maybe not.”
