Sheffield Wednesday earned themselves a much-needed win earlier this week to release some of the pressure on Carlos Carvalhal.

They're not out of the woods yet, but the win over Millwall showed what they can do when they get things hooked up.

You do get the feeling, though, that the Owls are going to have to dip into the January transfer market to get themselves towards the top six, and so we've taken a look at what areas need adding to most of all...

Alfie Burns

Maybe an area that isn’t particularly weak but needs strengthening is central midfield.

The likes of Kieran Lee, David Jones, Barry Bannan and Jacob Butterfield are all capable options, but Carvalhal would undoubtedly like a slightly different option in the middle of midfield.

A player capable of adding goals from midfield should be targeted.

Chris Gallagher

A centre-back has to be a priority.

The Owls could also do with a midfielder and perhaps a striker, but a dominant defender is a must.

Carlos Carvalhal's side have been solid over the years but that have looked vulnerable this season. A strong partner for Tom Lees would help keep some more clean sheets and it could be the catalyst Wednesday need to kick-on from January.

George Dagless

They need more pace and spark.

Wednesday will be in most games as they are hard to beat and physically strong but they've not won as many games as they should have.

That's because they're sorely missing flair players with Fernando Forestieri still out and so that is where I'd expect the Owls to invest.
