Blackburn Rovers goalkeeper David Raya has signed a new three-year contract at the Sky Bet Championship side, thus keeping him at Ewood Park until the summer of 2018, the club have confirmed.
This news comes as a huge reward for the 19-year-old stopper who joined the club’s academy back in 2012 from Spanish side Cornella.
He quickly progressed through the Rovers’ under-18 and under-21 squads, and he has impressed many with his mature performances between the sticks.
The goalkeeper spent the first half of the season on loan at Conference side Southport, thus making 22 appearances, including a memorable FA Cup appearance, where the club lost narrowly to Derby County.
At the beginning of April, Raya made his first team debut for the club against Leeds United, where he kept a clean sheet in the Blackburn’s 3-0 win.
Raya is expected to be in the Rovers squad in the final game against Ipswich Town, who are hopeful of sealing the play-off place on Saturday.
Blackburn are in 9th place in the Sky Bet Championship standings and are preparing for another season in the second tier of English football.
