Speaking to Yorkshire Live, former Sheffield Wednesday defender Glenn Loovens has looked back on his time at Hillsborough with fondness, having joined the club in 2013 and staying there as they flirted with promotion via the play-offs in the following years.

Indeed, the Dutchman signed for the Owls towards the end of 2013 with the club facing a tough period under Dave Jones - who left the club not so long after the defender's arrival.

Things in the years after, though, picked up and on more than one occasion the Owls made it into the play-offs - though they were ultimately unsuccessful in getting back into the Premier League.

Loovens, though, enjoyed his time at the club and had this to say about his spell in the Steel City:

"I look back on my time with Wednesday with great pride. We went a long way.

"When I joined, the club were fighting relegation. We got them to a better place. It was unfortunate we didn't get them up.

"But I am proud of my time there. I had some great years at Wednesday and I have only got good things to say about the club."

The Verdict

After moving to Sunderland for a brief stint, Loovens is now back in his native Netherlands and may well be weighing up his next steps in the game.

A key member of Wednesday's side in the middle of the last decade, the club enjoyed some decent times with him involved and, after a few years since of mid-table finishes, they'll be hoping that play-off challenges aren't that far away once more.
