Leeds United ended a run of three straight defeats with a vital victory over Middlesbrough at Elland Road on Sunday afternoon, with the win drawing the Whites level on points with the play-off pack.

Thomas Christiansen’s side lie outside the top-six on goal difference alone, with the win provided a much-needed morale boost to all associated with the former Premier League side.

Midfielder Pablo Hernandez opened the scoring in the first half, before the home side’s advantage was doubled when winger Ezgjan Alioski slid in at the back post to finish a fine Leeds move.

The deficit was halved by Boro striker Britt Assombalonga following a controversial penalty decision, but the hosts held on to secure the three points.
