With the appointment of Walter Zenga ahead of this season, nobody knew what to expect from a Wolves side who were widely publicised in the summer for the arrival of their new investors.

The club did however go through a very rough patch of results as they went nine matches without a win between September and November, starting with a defeat against Wigan who were bottom at the time.

But since the arrival of Paul Lambert, results have been more positive for the most part despite their position in the lower third of the Championship table.

Even within the struggle that the Wanderers endured towards the start of the season, there were still a few players who shone for the Midlands side and perhaps even surpassed what was expected of them.

Over the next couple of pages, FLW writer Tom Rawcliffe has identified two players who have exceeded expectations this season in a Wolves shirt...

Helder Costa

Despite joining Wanderers in the summer with a lot of promise, I don't think that anybody could have predicted just how well this lad has done.

Costa has been a revelation in the Wolves side, so much so that Paul Lambert wasted no time in completing a permanent deal in January for the former Benfica man.

With eight goals and five assists to his name, it's fair to say that the Portuguese winger has done extremely well for his first year in English football.

Dave Edwards

Edwards has played a big part in a Wolves shirt since his arrival all the way back in 2008 but this season he has arguably made a bigger contribution than ever before.

He has transformed himself into one of the division's top goal scoring midfielders, and with 9 goals so far this season he is the Championship's leading scorer in the central midfield department.

Wolves fans will be hoping that Edwards will continue to perform for the remainder of the season and help his side push up the table.
